What is the importance of neighbors?
...An interesting question to ask yourself after striding across the hall to ask an unknown neighbor to chat for a half hour.
Easy answer? You can ask for flour when in a pinch.
But let’s be honest, you don’t cook. And with today’s infrastructure you could have a drone deliver it to your front door in under an hour. So what are neighbors ACTUALLY good for?
The notebook I jotted this initial idea in.
Let's hear it from the mouth of the O.G. Neighbor himself, Mr. Rogers:
“Listening is where love begins: Listening to ourselves and then to our neighbors.” - Mr. Rogers
It’s easy to forget how complex humans are. Especially when the majority of our interaction with people revolves around 140 characters and a few pictures. I know for a fact that the diverse nature of people is wonderful, but I find myself often putting people into boxes and making judgements based on stereotypes and minimal interaction.
A 30 minute chat was a small start to me gaining greater perspective of the people all around me. I’m learning quickly that perspective is valuable, and learning why people are the way that they are breeds patience and love.
Where did I pull my facts from?
